Established in 2013, by filmmaker Aditya Vikram Sengupta, FOR FILMS was started with a view to creating quality cinema for a globally discerning audience. As the name suggests, the company’s raison d’être is everything that is film related and is a binding passion for each member of the team.

FOR FILMS is currently three films old and is engaged in developing one distinctly original feature film, titled Birth Mark, at the moment.

Aditya Vikram Sengupta

Aditya Vikram Sengupta was born in 1983 in Calcutta, India. At a very young age his interests meandered towards performing arts. He started training in western classical music and was an active dramatist throughout his childhood. Later, he trained himself in animation and film.

His student shorts have screened at various international festivals including Clermont Ferrand Short Film Festival, Animafest Zagreb and Sao Paulo International Film Festival. His paintings have been showcased in galleries across India and one of his posters is exhibited at the Religious Art Museum, Tehran.

He realised that filmmaking encompasses all his interests, allowing him to express himself in a wholesome manner.

Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s debut film Labour of Love created a tremendous buzz in the international film festival circuit. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival 2014, Giornate Degli Autori, where it won the FEDEORA for best Debut Film. Labour Of Love has since featured at over 70 international film festivals including Rotterdam, Busan, London, Tallinn, Munich, Marrakech, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi and IFFLA and has won 13 awards internationally. The film was also feted with 2 awards at the National Film Awards 2015 including the prestigious Golden Lotus for Best Debut Film.

Aditya’s second feature Jonaki was officially selected to have its World Premier in the Bright Future section of the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2018, where it began its festival journey.

Jonaki Bhattacharya

Born in Calcutta, India, Jonaki Bhattacharya is a multi-faceted individual who wears many hats. A talented producer and production designer, Jonaki has worked on some of the most awarded alternative cinema coming out of the Indian subcontinent in recent years. Her artistic vision is rooted deep within the cultural history of Bengal and her work resonates with a simplicity that makes it both compelling and a visual delight. She has worked as a Producer and Production Designer Labour of Love (Venice 2014), Jonaki (Rotterdam 2018) and Aquarium (In post production) by director Aditya Vikram Sengupta and as Production Designer for Rubaiyat Hussain's Made in Bangladesh (TIFF 2019). Working on Made in Bangladesh was her first project in a foreign country which was once connected to her own, Bangladesh. She created the sets from scratch, working hands on with her team to create the world around Shimu, the central character. Her home, the factory and other spaces in the film have been carefully researched, created and aged to create the effect of time and life spent in and around them. Currently Jonaki is developing Aditya's next feature film, Birth Mark and working on TV commercials.

Priyankar Patra

Priyankar is a Calcutta based screenwriter, filmmaker and a playwright. He has been interested in different forms of art from an early age but films have stayed with him since he was thirteen. Majority of Priyankar's independent works explore coming-of-age stories of characters separated, by circumstances, from their family, often explored through a satirical lens, During his time at Northwestern University in Chicago, where he earned his MFA in Screenwriting, he worked closely with Warner Bros., executives Mark Wolper and Kevin Nicklaus of L.A. Confidential, Bates Motel, Roots and Penn & Teller: Bullshit fame, and developed multiple projects for them, as a part of the Television Academy Foundation's education initiatives. After graduation, he moved back to Calcutta to collaborate with Aditya as an Assistant Director on his upcoming film Aquarium, and other TV commercials. Independently, he has worked as a script consultant and just finished post-production for his short film Malini. Currently he is working as a Producer for For Films and developing Aditya's next feature length project, Birth Mark.
